At Rotaract not only do we create lasting bonds with the community, but also with each other. These are great opportunities for everyone to come and join us, learn what we are all about, and what a magnificent group of young adults form this magnificent club.
If you would like to know when our next club's social will be, or if you are interested in getting involved with the club, please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
On June 20th we had our first service event! I want to thank everyone that was able to attend, and would like to specially thank Latoya Gray for making this event possible. There will be plenty of other opportunities for us to attend, so if you were not able to go this weekend you will be able to go next time.
To fill you in on what we did this weekend, we went to Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Fort Lauderdale where we spend time with the residents there. We first met a group of them while we played "Word Wizard" together. Following that we were separated into two groups were one stayed and helped with lunch, and helped feed the residents of the third floor who were the ones who needed a little more assistance. The other group began to go room by room meeting the residents who were confined to their beds. Shortly after, the group who had been helping with lunch also joined the touring group and visited residents in their rooms.
This was a great opportunity were we spent time with those who cherished it the most. I am very happy with the direction the club has taken, and what a great way to start off on the right foot! Just after three weeks we have already began to make a positive impact in our community. Lets keep the momentum going while we continue to make friends, memories, and a difference!
Tuesday, June 16th. Our third unofficial meeting. We welcomed our newest member Maria Alejandra, and we also had a special guest: Youth Services Chair for the Rotary club of Weston, John Cross.
As a group, we continued to select different community service projects, and organized our first event for next Saturday, June 20th. Also, we did a little project for Operation Smile for our ice breaker/social part of the meeting.
At the end, we voted for Vice President, and the new Board and Committees will be announced during the week.
Operation Smile (http://www.operationsmile.org/) is an organization that provides free surgery to children with cleft lip. Their willingness to help every children in the world inspired us, and we contacted them to ask how we could help. After evaluating the options we decided to make Smile Cards on our next meeting. This cards will be given to the kids after surgery to let them know how strong and beautiful they are, and to bring some joy during the recovery period.
These cards will go overseas from Honduras to South Africa, and from Nicaragua to Vietnam.
Our second unofficial meeting was a success. More new faces are showing up, and we are excited about recognizing familiar faces from last week. Today we got more formal. We introduced the organization to the new members, explained the roles of the board members and committees and set our first goal of participating in our first community service project on Saturday, June 20th.
Next week we will have elections and decide on what community service project we are going to do as a group.
Today we had our first unofficial meeting. With Luciano and Gonzalo's guidance, all the new members were introduced to the new world of Rotary and Rotaract. It was exciting to meet new faces and get inspired to make a change. We had a great visit from Dr. Muransky, a member of the Rotary Club of Hallandale Beach - Aventura.
We are not an official chapter yet, but we cannot wait to be part of the Rotary Family.
Look at all the other things we have accomplished!
